Hello and Happy Holidays to all of our Elevate couples! We’re finally back in that time of year where we can enjoy some festive cheer and some extra special quality time with our significant others and families. There’s so much to do! There’s decorations to put up, gifts to buy, meals to make – and lest we forget, planes to catch! This can be a very busy and exciting time.
However, with the excitement can also come pressure and strain. All of the things that make the holidays fun can inadvertently cause a lot of tension in your marriage! You might find yourself arguing about money more than other times of year. Maybe one of you is more punctual than the other, maybe one of you is a planner and the other likes to go with the flow. This time of year really has a way of bringing up old disagreements… So how can you make it through the holidays and get the most out of your festivities?
The best way to overcome these issues is to remember to work as a team! Play to each other’s strengths and make a point to pick up the slack when needed. If you know that your partner is great at picking thoughtful gifts but not so great at budgeting, have a discussion with them now about a financial plan that will allow them the wiggle room to gift generously while maintaining your household budget. If your partner is great at planning festivities but gets too wrapped up in the logistics to enjoy the plans they make, offer to plan a date night where they can have the opportunity to sit back and relax. And if you notice that all of the time spent with family leaves little time left for the two of you, make a point to set aside alone time to reconnect. Remember, you are two halves of one whole. The more you work together, the happier you will be!
Hopefully this pre-holiday check in gave you some ideas on how to elevate your festive season to the next level! Bundle up, drink lots of hot chocolate, and of course – Elevaaaate! 🙂
